Dr. Roger Gilbert

Roger Bruce Gilbert came to First Baptist Church of Mount Airy in February of 2001. He grew up in Huntsville, Alabama and received his B.A. degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky with a Master of Divinity Degree in 1972, and a Doctor of Ministry Degree in 1977. Roger came to Mount Airy from the First Baptist Church of Whiteville, NC where he served from 1983 to 2001.
Roger and his wife Deidra were blessed with two children and three grandchildren. Their daughter, Kristi Michelle Hinson, is the mother of Jessie, age 6, and Jacob, age 2. Their son, Brent Andrew Gilbert, who died in September 2006, has a daughter, Autumn Rose Gilbert, age 3.
Roger enjoys the out of doors, especially fishing, fly tying and hiking.
In addition to his ministry in the local church, Roger has served in various positions in the local associations, the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, and in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina. He also enjoys working with ministers and laity from various denominations in community ministries. CROP Hunger Walk and Blue Ridge CareNet Counseling Center are two of those ministries in Mount Airy.

Rev. Chris Aho

Though he is a native of Houghton, Michigan, Chris grew up mostly in the south: living in Fort Worth, Texas, Miami, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia. Upon graduation from Keller High School in Keller, Texas, Chris entered Baylor University in Waco, Texas. While a student at Baylor, he studied Religion and was active in campus activites including becoming a founding member of University Baptist Church.
In 1999, Chris graduated with a B.A. in Religion and then married his college sweetheart, Natalie Deason of Plano and Tyler, Texas. Natalie is also a graduate of Baylor, with a degree in Elementary Education and extensive studies in Psychology and counseling.
In 2000, Chris and Natalie moved to North Carolina so Chris could enter Duke University Divinity School. He is a 2004 graduate with a Master's of Divinity. While a student at Duke, he served the Zebulon Baptist Church as youth minister.
Chris became Associate Minister at First Baptist in October of 2005.
He enjoys running, mountain biking, snowboarding, golf, reading, music, Duke Basketball, Carolina Hurricanes Hockey, and traveling with his wife and family. Chris and Natalie have one son, Cameron Kyle, who was born in 2008 and is not named after a basketball stadium.

Mrs. Linda Denney

Linda Deyton Denney became Minister through Music in November, 2005. She grew up in Yancey County and will forever retain her love of the mountains. She is a graduate of Furman University, holding the bachelor of music degree, and of Converse College, with a master of music degree in piano performance. She has more than thirty years experience in music education and church music.
Linda and her husband Joe have three grown children: Sarah, married to Paul Young, of Winston-Salem, Melissa, of Chapel Hill, and Ryan, of Winston-Salem. Sarah and Paul have 2 sons, Will and Charlie..
Playing with Will and Charlie, hiking, reading, running, watching The Food Network, and making music are some of Linda's favorite activities.
