King David Sunday School Class

We are an adult, coed class of believers of varying ages who come from different backgrounds and diverse professions to learn about the Bible, support one another, and minister to others through individual and combined efforts. We have 30 on roll and some of our members have attended our class since its founding in the early 1970s. Others joined as recently as a few months ago. Visitors and newcomers are always welcome! Many of our members-individually-do volunteer work in the community (Red Cross, Surry Medical Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, schools, hospital, etc., home repairs, building ramps, yard work and home repairs for disabled members of the church and community, cooking and/or helping with Friends Feeding Friends ministry). As a class, we help support a struggling pastor in South Africa who targets the neediest of the needy on the farms and squatter camps in his area. The ladies of our class meet on the first Tuesday of each month for dinner and fellowship. The men decided it looked like so much fun that they have started meeting together on that night, also. In addition, we try to plan a social for the entire class on the fifth Sunday of the five-Sunday months. Some of our get-togethers have included playing Whist, ice cream socials, covered dish meals, trips to Shatley Springs for either breakfast or dinner, and a dessert social. We have an e-mail list, which is the primary way we communicate our class business. In addition, we try to personally contact members who have missed some Sundays due to travel, illness, etc. We believe our class is a special class that offers a great deal for prospective members. We offer members and visitors wonderful fellowship, support in times of illness or crisis, and a genuine care and concern for each other. We are not just a 'couples' class. Our class includes singles, and 'half' couples-when the other half is involved in teaching or other work during the Sunday School hour. Because our members are from various backgrounds and careers, this is the ingredient which makes for great class participation in lessons. Rather than a single teacher, we have a core of volunteer class members who teach on a rotating basis-another great ingredient for good Bible study. Although our teachers follow the same literature (Explore the Bible series), each teacher brings different perspectives to the lessons each Sunday.
