WMU
Woman's Missionary Union (WMU) in our church was organized in 1887. Its purpose has always been to teach missions, to engage in mission activities, and to support missions through prayer, money, and gifts. The WMU Leadership Team meets quarterly to plan and coordinate activities.
Missions activities for young people are under the WMU umbrella. The following organizations meet at the church on Wednesday afternoons or evenings:
5:30 P.M. Mission Friends (ages 3-5)
6:30 P.M. Mission Kids (ages 6-12)
6:30 P.M. Acteens (teenage girls)
Ladies' mission groups meet either monthly or quarterly. All the groups participate in planned WMU activities, like sponsoring the annual churchwide Harvest for Hunger food drive in the fall for hungry people, hosting an annual soup and sandwich luncheon for county and city emergency workers in appreciation for their service to the area, and preparing food bags each month to be distributed to needy people through Medical Ministries. WMU and Baptist Men organize a churchwide soup kitchen called Feeding Friends which operates every Thursday night 5:15 in the Fellowship Hall.
Each individual group studies about missions, prays for missions, and participates in missions activities which the group chooses. Every group welcomes visitors and new comers. We are always looking for the opportunity to begin a new group that would meet the interests and needs of a small group.
